“Your perception may not be my reality” – Aporva Kala

Have you ever eaten something you did not like? Have you wondered how others can eat this? It does not matter if you are already an adult and experiencing this by your children’s eating habits or if you experience it by your own. Your parents told you it tastes so good. But actually it does not. May it be your perception?

Is my green the same as your green? Maybe it looks completely different within your eyes but you call it green as it’s been taught you to be green.

One thing is for sure. Mindset plays an important role for your perception. If I want to like it the chances are high that I will like. But that is not always the case (referring to the green pepper story 😀 )

I am a musician so it is very fascinating to see how people perceive my music. What do they feel like? What do they hear?
Often I find myself sitting in front of my pc worrying if that snare is too loud or if it fits in appropriately. Actually, it is the other way around 😀 I love to keep my snare very quiet :)) Nonetheless, everybody reacts differently. Some complain that it is ways too loud whileas others say it is too quiet. But most of the people do not really care as long as it does not disturb them.

But does my music convey a message? Does any song convey a message these days? I doubt many people care about the story, or the lyrics. Have you ever found yourself in interpreting lyrics? Music got a way of entertainment instead of transmitting stories.

There is just one thing that surprises me. All the great songs i hear do have a story. All the songs that do not have a storyline get forgotten. They get lost in the crowd. They will never become successful in the music industry.

The story influences the songs quality and perception but people do not perceive the story? Have you ever thought about lyrics of a certain song? Have you ever experienced the feeling the composer have had while writing the song? Did a song teach you a lesson for live?

“Your perception of me is a reflection of you”

People are taking care of their nutrition, doing lots of sports, spending less time in front of their TV. All of that just to become happy.

Most of them miss the most important source of happiness. Light. Sunlight.

When I woke up this morning it was dark outside. I went to the gym and did my morning workout. I realized (yep, actually realized!!) that the sun was rising while i was training.  It filled me with joy. It was a great day. I could barely see any clouds on the sky. So I decided to spend more time on the outside today.

It is winter over here in Austria and we got only 8 hours of sunlight a day. I spend lots of my time at school, actually almost all of my available time, so I hardly see what is going on outside of these four walls.

I was wondering what is important to become happy. And sunlight is definitely one of the major factors. Spend at least an hour a day on the outside. Take your time and fill your body with Vitamine D. Take an hour off of your work.

Sunlight will do the rest for you!

Have you ever experienced a lack of sunlight? How did you feel? Did you find out that you were missing sunlight?

This week I will come up with something completely different. A story I love to tell others when I feel the atmosphere is broken. A story that makes no sense. A story without a moral. (Okay, maybe there is one in there but I have not been able to identify it yet)

The Green Pepper

Nutrition is really important for me. It gives me the power I need to accomplish my goals, it motivates me and fills me with joy.  For a balanced nutrition vegetables are really important. I usually tended to neglect vegetables as I did not like them. Neither cucumbers nor courgette. To be honest, I always liked pepper but I never enjoyed them raw. Therefor I decided:

Let’s eat one pepper every day!

On the first day I told myself: Pepper tastes great. You will love it.

It really worked out for me. I was excited all day long to eat vegetables.
Until I needed to eat the pepper. It was a green pepper. The only one we have had at home. Our garden is filled with green pepper.

Without making it worse, it tasted like I do not know what. But everything else than great. Some kind of detergent (Okay well, I do not know what detergent tastes like but that’s what I imagine. Maybe detergent tastes even greater) or whatsoever.

As promised I ate the whole pepper and told myself:

“Your body is just not used to eat it. But it will taste great after you have eaten it a couple of times”

Do not be scared I will make the story a bit faster.
The same happened for me the next weeks. Green pepper. It tasted nightmarish. I told myself: “You will start liking it soon”

One day a classmate brought some red pepper. I told him that I actually hate pepper and that I just eat those for health reasons so he offered me some red pepper.
It tasted gorgeous, ambrosial, delicious, …. (there are no words to describe what I felt like. It was unbelieveable for me that I have just eaten a pepper and i enjoyed it!)

I came home and told my parents immediatly:
I need red pepper instead of green ones!!!!

Okay, so they got me some and it tasted exactly the same. It is unlikely to be true that this is pepper.
I kept going eating red and yellow pepper only. I was overwhelmed because I thought I just told my brain to like pepper and it did so.

Well, nonetheless I tried green pepper once again after a few months. I expected to like it.
I did not.

If you have any questions concerning green pepper or vegetables in general do not hesitate to contact me! I would also be more than glad to hear your opinion on green pepper! Do you like it?

If you have not tried out green pepper yet you can share your experiences following these “instructions” and tell me your output!

Have a blessful day!

A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step. ~Lao Tzu

The day I started producing music I never thought I would come so far. I am releasing my first track. It has been a long journey until this day. Neither rocky roads nor bad weather has stopped me from walking my path. But I have still not reached my destination. Will there ever be a destination?
My life is a journey.

Journey Through India
Why have I chosen this title? I already revealed my journey but what has India to do with it? To be honest I have never been there in my life. Just seen some photos and heard a handful of stories.
Anyways, every destination releases emotions just by thinking of them. It does not matter if you have ever visited it.

For me, India’s instruments have always been interesting. I already told you in my first blog that I barely liked any instrument when I was younger except the one I am playing. The Harmonium has always excited me. Maybe because it sounds similar to the Austrian Accordion. So I have chosen it for the Intro and Breaks and implemented it also in the Drop Section.

I tried to recreate the mystical impact India stands for me. A power that lays beyond those supernatural country nobody would ever expect.

The Artwork

While writing a piece of music I get a picture of it. Every sound I design creates a line in my head. As soon as the song is finished my drawing is also done. That is the reason I do the cover by myself. I do not want anybody else to touch my piece of art. Of course, it takes me lots of time which I could invest into music production. I just feel like the song is not finished if I have not done the artwork.

Journey Through India CD Cover

Journey Through India will be released this Friday (02.02.2018)! Buy here!

For me the mandala represents the possibilities of ways. Their similarity. Sometimes I feel it does not matter which way you chose. You can never be sure if it had been the right path. Do you know what would have happened if you would have taken the other way?
The mandala is an old and important symbol in the Indian culture. It represents the universe in Hinduism and Buddhism.

My journey has not ended yet. In the forthcoming time my songs will be inspired by many countries and one day I might come back to India. Hopefully I have then been there and can forward you the emotions it settles to me.

Come with me! Walk the path together with me.

A minute lasts 60 seconds…
An hour lasts 60 minutes..
A day lasts 24 hours
… and a week lasts 7 days

I usually do not think of any topic I will be writing about every weeks blog. I just live my life and see what I come up with. Most of the times the greatest ideas come from nowhere. Like this time. I was lying in my bed and reading a book. I tend to read before I fall asleep because it gives me a much greater and more efficient sleep. That moment I got too tired to read anymore a question crossed my head. What time is it? I did not look it up. I was satisfied without knowing what the clock might say. I just brainstormed the word “time” and came up with a question that still hunts me for days.

What does time mean?

Time can be measured. Time can be used to measure. Measure what? Measure our success, our life, our fails. Without time we would not be waiting for anything. How can I wait for something without knowing when it is going to happen?

I still go to school and when I’m in class I tend to check when the lesson is over.Since that night I stopped looking up the clock. Not knowing when the next lesson will start I can focus much more on the important things. Learning. Thats actually why I am there. Do I go to school to wait for it to be over?

This example can be transposed to our work life. I lack of work experience, of course, because I am still very young but when I was working I recognized two different types of employees:

  1. The “When Is The Day Over?” worker
  2. The “I Do Not Care What Time It Is” worker

The first one can be identified by dropping his pen exactly when the clock turns 12 o’clock for lunch break. His work will be less productive because of taking care when the break is going to happen. He cannot focus on the work properly. I doubt he loves what he is doing.

Whileas, the second one tries to finish his work. Break is not determined by time, it is by what has been done. Usually, he seems to be more happy about what he is doing. He got a sense of humour for his work. He truely loves it.

You have the opportunity to chose the life you want to live. Being either the “When Is The Day Over” or the “I Do Not Care What Time It Is” worker.

So, what does time actually mean? What does time mean to you? I would be glad to hear some of your opinion on how your life is controlled by the clock and if you ever tried to make changes?

A goal without a plan is just a wish!

Last week I have been talking about my past and what inspires me. I got lots of great feedback and I also got asked to write about the present and the future. Where do I see myself in five years time and how can I set my goals properly?

I see many people struggle with achieving their goals. Actually, I hate seeing people fail in their life. Failure might be the biggest danger for happiness.

This week I got a little workshop for you. The next time you enter any public transport (i.e bus, train or whatsoever) you briefly inspect your fellow passengers. Do they look happy? What could they feel like? It is lots of fun inspecting strangers and guessing how they feel and what causes their mood. There are plenty of possibilities.

There is one thing I’ve recognized: Most of them seem to be unhappy. Whether they are dissatisfied with their work, their relationship or whatsoever, their face is filled with disappointment.

It is your choice to make the best out of your living. You only live once, so why should not you take a risk? If you have got nothing, you cannot lose anything.

Setting your goals.

What helped me the most to become happy is achieving goals. Having success. I got something to celebrate, something to be happy about because I achieved it. Split your goals into milestones and celebrate every milestones. Bigger milestones can be every month, small ones every week or even every day! I tend to pin my tasks and goals onto my door. Seeing them every time I enter my room, I can be happy about what I have accomplished. What I have achieved. And it makes me smile looking at these pins!

Just a year ago I started to read books about communication psychology and goal setting. It helped my personal development and I got to know myself a lot better. Knowing yourself is the key to success. Being aware of your own values makes it a lot easier to choose the right tasks and fulfill them. Always take care of the effects those tasks might have on your personality.

Values can be:
– Adventure
– Love
– Friends
– Respect
– Traveling
– Religion
– and many, many more…

Focusing on tasks will develop certain values while other values get neglected.

Where do I see myself in 5 years time?

Next year I will graduate from my Higher Technical College for Construction Engineering in Linz. I plan to work in Sweden for 3 months before doing alternative service. In Austria you have a compulsory military service. Every citizen needs to go to the army for at least six months after turning 18 years old or graduating from school. If you refuse using weapons you have the ability to do alternative service. I tend to help other people instead of using weapons.

Having the A-Level, I will go to university in a foreign country. Audio engineering would be my go-to and I will see if I can make it in the industry.

I hope that I can make a living of music and influence our society in a positive way.

If you have got any questions to me about setting goals, personal development or any other questions do not hesitate to contact me!

When words fail, music speaks ~ Shakespeare

When I started writing my first blog i asked myself a few questions:
– Do others feel the same emotions as I do while writing a new piece of music?
– Do others see the connection of every note? Is it just a randomn selection of
sounds? Does my music make sense?
– Do others listen to music as I do?

What is the best way to find out the answer? Exactly, composing your own productions and sharing them with the world. You can see the reactions in their eyes. Whether they like it or not. Whether the song touches their heart or not. Music never lies.

When I was 6 years old I wanted to play an instrument. Honestly, I have been really selfish so I did not like any other instrument than the one I was playing. And the only instrument I liked was the accordion. Although, an accordion is quite heavy and my legs hurt, I continued playing. I continued playing because I liked it.

In the beginning I only played for myself. I actually did not like to play in front of people because I feared they would judge my mistakes.

I do not know when I tried to compose my first song. But I was young, maybe nine or ten years old. Having no clue about music theory makes it really hard to write a song. It sounded terrible, I knew that and kept it for myself.

With 10 years you definitely lack of self-confidence. You do things because you do them. You do not ask why you are doing this. So I composed songs.

At the age of 12 years I did my first music theory course. With 14 Years I did another one. To be honest, I thought I would never need this again. And i complained about learning it.

Looking back to my childhood I see music composition always played a big role in my life. A bigger role than I actually imagined. I struggled coping with my emotions and music is the best way to get rid of it. Every song tells an adventure of my life and what I currently feel like. Composing is more than just putting samples together. Composing is reflecting your feelings, your emotions.

So coming back to the questions from the top:
I do not know the answers so I appreciate everyone who shares what they feel like when listening to my songs. Just comment below or on any of my posts!
There is nothing more beautiful for me than moving people, touching people and making them feel better.
Because music is my way of communication.
